Common Questions

Before you compose

Which AI model powers SonicVox Music?

Google Lyria — the music-generation model family from Google DeepMind, served on Google Cloud Vertex AI. SonicVox composes instrumental tracks of about 30 seconds at 48kHz stereo. Single-provider, on-the-record, IP-indemnified.

Is the music safe for commercial use?

Yes. Lyria was developed by Google with explicit attention to copyright and partner agreements: training data sources are licensed or otherwise cleared by Google's rights team. Outputs include the SynthID watermark and Google Cloud provides IP indemnification on Vertex AI generative-media services for paid customers. SonicVox passes that commercial-use license through to you.

Can I generate songs with vocals and custom lyrics?

Not today — the music engine composes instrumental tracks only. If you need a vocal on top, generate the bed here and layer narration or a cloned voice from Text to Speech in the Studio. Vocal music generation is on the roadmap.

Can I prompt with an image instead of text?

Not currently — music is composed from a text prompt. Describe the mood, genre, instrumentation and pacing you want and the model scores it.

How long is each track?

About 30 seconds per track, at 48kHz stereo. Generate several and arrange them in the Studio for longer pieces. Because the length is fixed, music is priced per track rather than per second.

Can I use the track in my DAW?

Yes. Every render downloads as a 48kHz stereo WAV, so you can drop it straight into Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton or any other DAW. Per-instrument stem separation is not available for generated music.

How long does a render take?

Usually well under a minute for a 30-second track. You'll see a live status update in the studio while it renders.

Do I own what I generate? Can it be copyrighted?

You receive a full commercial-use license to the output via Google Cloud's terms — use it in films, ads, games, on YouTube/Spotify, etc. One nuance: in some jurisdictions (notably the US Copyright Office), AI-only output is not eligible for copyright registration on the AI portion alone — though human-authored elements (lyrics you wrote, performances you recorded) remain independently copyrightable. The commercial-use license stands regardless.

What is SynthID and will it appear in my track?

SynthID is Google's imperceptible audio watermark embedded in every Lyria render. It is inaudible to the human ear and survives compression, format conversion, and most edits. It exists for AI-provenance verification — services like YouTube's Content ID can identify AI-generated music correctly, reducing false copyright claims against you.

Why is there no try-it-now button on this marketing page?

Music generation is a metered Google Cloud workload — every render is a real cost on Vertex AI. Letting anonymous visitors try would burn budget faster than is fair to paying customers. Sign up for a free trial — every plan includes Lyria generation credits.

What about my data and prompts?

Your prompts, lyrics, and reference inputs are not used to train Lyria or any other foundation model. Google Cloud's Generative AI services run with zero-data-retention options that SonicVox enables by default. See our AI Transparency page for the full data-handling commitments.
